Recommendations for Digital Pianos and Accessories
So you're looking to buy a piano for yourself or your child! Pianos can be quite the investment, so it's important to do your research before buying.
An acoustic piano is usually preferred, but many people prefer to buy a digital piano versus an acoustic. There are lots of benefits: They don't have to be tuned, they take up less room, they're easier to move, and you can wear headphones while practicing. And luckily, there are some great options at various price points.
The important thing is that you find a digital piano that feels and sounds as close to an acoustic as you can afford. You want to purchase the best option in your budget. The higher your budget, the better piano you will be able to buy. BUT. There are a few pianos at a lower budget that are good for beginning and intermediate pianists.
Key features you will need:
- 88 full sized keys
- Fully weighted keys
- If the piano does not include a stand, you will need to purchase one.
- Beginning piano students will need at least a sustain pedal (most pianos come with one). Intermediate to advanced pianists will benefit from having all three pedals.
- You will most likely need either an adjustable height piano bench or a cushion/booster to ensure correct posture at the piano. (I will work with you in our first lesson to help you find the height you need.)
- Over ear, wired headphones (optional)
- Younger students may need a footstool
Other things to think about
- Where will you be keeping your piano? Living room, dining, bedroom? Many families who have the piano out in the living room also want it to look good and fit their style, because they're looking at it every day. So maybe a Cabinet Style piano will appeal to you. These have a similar look of an acoustic and have a lid to cover the keys when not in use.
- If you need to move the piano from room to room, maybe you'd prefer a more portable option: A keyboard and removable stand.
- Does color matter to you? Some of the options below are available in black, white, or wood tones.

LiquidStand Piano Stand and Adjustable Bench Bundle| $179.99 ($157.99 as of 8/27) on Amazon
If you are looking at getting both a stand and bench from this brand, definitely check this bundle. Depending on different sales going on, you can often save some money buying them bundled than separate.

Donner Universal Sustain Pedal | $16.99 on Amazon
Some keyboards come with a basic, plastic sustain pedal/switch. It gets the job done, but you may prefer this pedal after a few months in lessons.
